University of Aberdeen and NHS Grampian’s jointly owned Foresterhill Campus is set to expand its facilities in Aberdeen. More than £150m is expected to be invested in the site.
Planning for 10 new facilities has been submitted to Aberdeen City Council via a pre-application notification.
The plans comprise of a new Baird Family Hospital and the ANCHOR Centre. The former will include maternity, gynaecology, breast screening, and breast surgery services, as well as a neonatal unit, centre for reproductive medicine, an operating theatre suite, and research and teaching facilities.
The ANCHOR Centre will provide out-patient and day-patient investigation, as well as treatment services for patients with cancer and with blood disorders.
The plans also include provision for a patient hotel, and a multi-storey car park. Additionally, a new life science centre that will be used by both the health board and Aberdeen University will also be erected.
There will also be a new Foresterhill health centre and a replacement for the existing mortuary.
If plans are approved it is expected work will start in 2018, with the view to open the facilities in 2020.
The site has already seen some modernisation, with existing buildings undergoing refurbishment. This includes the creation of a new £13.6m radiotherapy department, which is expected to open this year.
