Tilbury Douglas will extend the Emergency Department and theatre suite at Aintree Hospital for Liverpool University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as part of a £16 million contract

IBI Design Group and Sutcliffe Civil and Structural Engineers will deliver the extension at Aintree Hospital. It is expected that construction will be completed by the spring of 2023.

What will the development look like?

A two-storey extension with hybrid operating theatres will be built in addition to the refurbishment of existing theatres at Aintree Hospital. The new emergency department will include improved assessment areas, an updated Radiology Department and better designed ambulance drop off bays on the ground floor.

Phil Shaw, the divisional director for the North West at Tilbury Douglas, said:

“We’re delighted to be working with Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to deliver this exciting development that will enhance patient care.

“The contract award builds on the team’s excellent track record of working on complex developments across the North West, including at the neighbouring Walton Centre, the UK’s only dedicated neurosciences Trust, delivering the Sid Watkins Building and iMRI Suite.”
