Great Places has appointed Eric Wright Construction (EWC) on the Ancoats Dispensary development on Old Mill Street in Manchester city centre
Both the facades and the tower are grade II listed, the new build will take place at the rear of the dispensary with a two-storey extension. The tower will be restored to its former glory.
Affordable rent
The Ancoats Dispensary development will include 39 one- and two-bedroom apartments that rented out at affordable prices under plans created with Manchester City Council and Homes England.
Built in 1874, the Ancoats Dispensary provided essential support to the Royal Infirmary in order to meet the increased need for healthcare provision across Manchester.
‘We will ensure the Dispensary is sensitively transformed’
Speaking about the Ancoats Dispensary development, James Eager, director at Eric Wright Construction, commented:
“We have been involved in several projects in Ancoats and New Islington and are thrilled to be once again playing a role in the ongoing regeneration of this area. This building has huge historical significance and we will ensure the Dispensary is sensitively transformed to a fully functioning building after having lain derelict for over three decades.
Helen Spencer, director of Development at Great Places, added:
“We’re delighted to be working with Eric Wright Construction on this project; this is a flagship scheme which heralds a new era for one of Ancoats’ most cherished landmarks, providing 39 new high-quality affordable homes in the area. Eric Wright Construction are specialists in the renewal of historic buildings, and we are looking forward to starting work.”
