BRE has announced several winners of its BREEAM Awards 2021 in what marks the first day of three virtual ceremonies
BREEAM, which is a core part of BRE’s work, has been the sustainability assessment method for planning projects, infrastructure and buildings for over 30 years.
The BREEAM Awards is an annual celebration recognising the projects and organisations that, in the view of the independent judging panel, are leading the way with significant achievements in sustainable building design, development and management.
The ceremony, which was hosted by BRE head of building performance services Shamir Ghumra and included a keynote speech from Sadie Morgan, director of dRMM Architects, celebrated the importance of good design in delivering sustainable outcomes and improving quality of life.
‘Making buildings fit for the future’
Shamir Ghumra, head of building performance services at BRE, said: “In a year that has been like no other, it is wonderful to be able to celebrate these fantastic achievements from across the globe.
“Making buildings both fit for the future while enhancing quality of lives is at the heart of what we do, and alongside today’s winners, I want to thank all of those who support and advocate for BREEAM.
“The pandemic has been a huge challenge in so many ways for our industries, but it has also allowed us to revaluate priorities and where possible build back better.
“We look forward to continuing our work through BREEAM as we ease out of lockdowns around the world, and we are excited to witness the positive impact felt from so many of this year’s award winners.”
