CIBSE 2018 symposium to address built environment challenges

1061

Climate change, the environment, security and digitisation are all challenges facing built environment professionals and will be addressed in several presentations at the 2018 CIBSE Technical Symposium on 12-13 April, hosted by London South Bank University

‘Stretching the envelope’ is the theme of this year’s symposium, and focuses on responses to these uncertainties. With an increasing demand to deliver healthy and productive environments to live and work, the industry needs to look beyond business-as-usual and drive forward the development of increasingly sustainable future environments.

The CIBSE 2018 symposium aims to provide the construction industry with a technical insight into the methods, technologies and techniques that are available, or just over the horizon, which will drive the development of increasingly sustainable future environments.

Now in its eighth year, this industry-leading event features presentations and discussions lead by over 50 experts, researchers and leaders in their field on both the established and proven facts, as well as developmental and cutting-edge propositions.

The event will begin with a presentation by Tony Day of the International Energy Research Centre talking on the topic of ‘Collaborative research in the building services sector: adding value and delivering impact’. Following the opening session, the symposium will split into three streams to accommodate the broad range of topics covered.

The CIBSE 2018 symposium will include presentations on:

  • Designing and assessing high-performance buildings
  • Lighting design and evaluation and the lit environment
  • CHP, district energy and heat pumps
  • Indoor Air Quality
  • Data-driven development and assessment and
  • Moving cities towards the 22nd Century
  • Harnessing and optimising the utility of natural resources
  • Business skills to boost building performance and;
  • Training and commissioning for effective lifelong operation.
