Construction experts are preparing to provide advice and input for future negotiations on the UK’s withdrawal from the EU
Members of the Construction Industry Council have met to discuss the challenges ahead in relation to Britain’s exit from the EU.
Members looked at what opportunities could be provided once Article 50 is enacted and the UK begins the withdrawal process.
Members also agreed to help shape policy for the sector as the process of leaving the EU begins and to support the working group, which was established by the Institution of Civil Engineers under Sir John Armitt.
The vote to leave has been a mixed bag for the construction sector, with builders’ merchants reporting an increase in sales since the vote, but other parts of the industry warning of difficulties ahead, particularly in relation to the mounting skills crisis.
Speaking after the meeting, CIC chief executive Graham Watts said: “In the… weeks since the referendum, the leading professional bodies have been pro-active in providing policy leads and briefings on the likely impact of Brexit.
“CIC can add value to that activity by supporting emerging consensus policy lines; acting as the hub for sharing information; and using the extensive network of the professional bodies to gather data and information.”
