Durkan, one of the leading independent housebuilding and construction companies in the South, has been appointed by Network Homes to build 158 affordable new homes in London
Durkan, a significant player in residential projects for more than 50 years, has been appointed by Network Homes to build 158 affordable homes near Central Middlesex Hospital.
Planning permission was secured back in for the new homes in London back in March 2020, with construction work set to begin in March 2022.
Major redevelopment in Park Royal, Central Middlesex Hospital
Four new residential buildings, ranging from six to fifteen storeys in height, will be built on the major site redevelopment in Park Royal. The Old Refectory Building, a brick building belonging to the original Central Middlesex Hospital, will also be retained and fully refurbished.
Tim Carpenter, who was recently appointed as managing director for construction at Durkan, said:
āThis exciting project with Network Homes underscores Durkanās strong start to 2022.Ā The scheme will transform the current site and is a key part of a wider regeneration plan for Old Oak and Park Royal, an area set for major positive change and to become a transport hub where High Speed 2 will meet Crossrail. Importantly too, these new homes will be offered as London Affordable Rent and shared ownership, helping local people get onto the housing ladder.ā
High-quality, contemporary one, two and three-bedrooms homes
The one, two and three-bedrooms homes will feature high-quality and contemporary design features. This includes new communal green spaces with a large central square with trees, landscaping and pathways for residents. Wildflower bio roofs will line three of the developmentās buildings in order to support local wildlife.
Minimising energy consumption is central to this project and therefore solar panels, air source heat pumps and low energy LED lighting have been incorporated throughout. External envelopes will minimise heat loss, helping to meetĀ carbon reduction targets set for new homes by the Greater London Authority.
Much needed affordable housing in London
David Gooch, executive director for development at Network Homes, said:
āWeāre really pleased to be working in partnership with Durkan and delighted to see this exciting project get underway. Ā The development will deliver much needed affordable housing as well as employment opportunities in an area undergoing rapid change and regeneration. Ā It also supports our strategic objective to increase the number of homes for people in housing need by starting on a minimum of 1,000 affordable homes by March 2023.ā
Tim added: āThis continuing partnership with Network Homes, who weāve been building homes with for over 20 years, is the latest in a succession of new business wins for Durkan ā something we are very proud of.ā
