Westminster City Council is seeking bids to help build 200 new homes in the first phase of the Ebury Bridge estate renewal
Westminster City Council is advertising a design and build contract that, alongside the 200 new homes on Ebury Bridge estate, will see a new public square created as part of the ambitious Pimlico project.
The successful bidder will also have the chance to deliver the whole scheme if they meet high quality and performance standards.
The estimated value of the entire Ebury Bridge estate renewal project is expected to be around £350m across all phases with the first phase around £97m.
The renewal project will set a new standard for regeneration in Central London.
Councillor Rachael Robathan, Westminster City Council cabinet member for finance, property and regeneration, said: “As a City for all we’re committed to the most ambitious house building programme for a generation. The renewal of Ebury Bridge Estate is a top priority for the council in our commitment to deliver 1,850 affordable homes over the next three years.
“It’s exciting to now look for a delivery partner who shares our vision for outstanding living spaces, so we can deliver a new estate to give our residents the chance to live and work in the city.”
This latest development follows the council’s decision last year to fully renew the Ebury Bridge estate, providing up to 750 high-quality homes over the next seven years. The first phase could begin at the end of next year. It will see four blocks demolished, and then more than 200 new mixed-tenure homes and a well-designed public square delivered by mid-2023. The later phases will see the remaining estate blocks demolished to make way for the rest of the new blocks and squares.
The council’s new wholly owned development company Westminster Housing Investing Ltd offers a potential route for funding, delivering and owning new intermediate rent, market rent and sale housing across the borough.
