ENGIE has secured a long-term contract to provide total facilities management at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust’s Queen Alexandra Hospital (QAH) in a deal worth a total of £1.3bn
ENGIE has been providing these services on an interim basis at the hospital, which provides a range of comprehensive acute and specialist services, since early 2018 when they were asked to step in following the collapse of Carillion.
Over the previous six months, the business has worked closely with the Trust and PFI owner The Hospital Company to agree a new contract which will see ENGIE provide services for the remaining 22 years of the hospital’s PFI contract. The PFI contract between the Trust and The Hospital Company remains unchanged.
ENGIE will be responsible for the management of 950 employees across the hospital site.
As part of the newly revised facilities management arrangement, a number of new posts will be created by the end of 2019 at QAH in a range of disciplines from technical staff, to domestic supervisors and porters to enhance the offer to the Trust and their service users.
Other plans include ENGIE carrying out full refurbishments of the main restaurant and the current Costa outlet.
Sam Hockman, Divisional COO for ENGIE’s Places & Communities division South, said: “We are delighted to be working with such great customers and serving the local community. The Trust and The Hospital Company have managed what could have been a very difficult and uncertain time with exceptional skill and we are thrilled to have been able to support them, initially with an interim solution offering full service continuity at the hospital whilst ensuring the continued employment of the entire team at QAH – and now with a long-term solution which will see us serve the hospital and the wider community in the years to come.
“As we have done at several other major NHS Trusts across the country, we will work with QAH to use our Services expertise, combined with our capabilities in refurbishment and energy, to provide enhanced outcomes for the local people and communities that use the hospital.”
Mark Cubbon, Chief Executive of Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust added: “We are delighted to have confirmed ENGIE as provider of Facilities Management services to the Queen Alexandra hospital which is great news for our patients and our local community.
“All staff working for ENGIE are an integral part of our team at the Trust and we look forward to working with them to deliver an exciting future for our hospital.”
