Fletcher Priest has designed and received planning permission for 488 new homes in Cherrywood, an urban village in Dublin
The architectural and design firm also led the masterplan for the wider site, which will create a community of 1,300 homes for Quintain Ireland.
The Cherrywood project has been developed in collaboration with Dublin-based architects Urban Agency and O’Mahony Pike and with landscape by Grant Associates.
New homes in Cherrywood consist of a mix of buildings
The new homes in Cherrywood, Dublin will consist of a mix of apartments and duplexes.
The urban village is only minutes away two Luas Line tram stops, and arranged around a greenway, village green, pocket park and an ecology-rich historic country lane.
Five storey residential buildings will be positioned around generous landscaped podium gardens together with a series of three-storey buildings.
Flexible community spaces are at the heart of the urban village, aiming to support a variety of amenities for residents.
Each home will designed to Passivhaus design principles and with lots of natural light. The architects want the properties to be as low energy and sustainable as possible, with a healthy indoor climate.
The Cherrywood homes will incorporate flexible layouts, with home working space, access to a private balcony and generous shared outdoor space and a distinctive duplex typology offers each resident their own front door with direct street access. The variety of typologies will attract a wide range of residents, including families.
The wider masterplan for Cherrywood, Dublin
The wider masterplan seeks to create a place provides the best of both words: both city and landscape, whilst respecting and strengthening existing ecological corridors.
These connected open spaces are a key element of the new masterplan’s DNA, promoting healthy and sustainable daily lifestyles with nature at the doorstep.
Furthermore, essential infrastructure is already in place. For example Dublin’s tramway already reaches Cherrywood in 20 minutes, allowing the area to operate as a sustainable extension of the city. Plus, the nearby M50 highway provides road connections to central Dublin. Extensive cycling corridors also encourage active travel.
Workplaces can be accessed in the neighbouring Sandyford, home to multinational technology companies including Google, Microsoft and Accenture.
