FP McCann’s ‘L’ Wall products form perimeter a boundary to new Coventry based speculative build

Warehouse and distribution centre development and management specialists, Stoford Properties and BlackRock UK have appointed Benniman Construction to undertake the building of a new 103,000 sq ft speculative industrial unit at their Carbon 103 site in Middlemarch Business Park, adjacent to Coventry airport.
The project involves a substantial earthworks package and the installation of extensive site retaining structures. FP McCann successfully tendered for the supply of its reinforced precast concrete ‘L’ Wall system and had initial design discussions with Benniman prior to the commencement of the contract in May this year.
Wolverhampton based civil engineering and groundworks contractor, Hannon Brothers is carrying out the installation of the retaining structures on behalf of Benniman. Key benefits of the ‘L’ wall design include ease and speed of installation and no propping is required.
The site boundary walling is being constructed using 270 no. of FP McCann’s ‘L’ wall units of varying heights from 1.0m to 3.00m, to accommodate the external elevationchanges across the site.Manufactured at the Company’s Grantham plant, each ‘L’ wall has been set out on an in-situ concrete base slab. These are then drilled and dowelled into the slab to secure via the individual toe sections. A construction strength grout is then pumped beneath each unit for added stability and alignment.
Speaking on behalf of Hannon Brothers, Richard Bayliss, Site Manager says, “This is the first time we have installed FP McCann’s ‘L’ wall units. After quickly familiarising themselves with the anchoring and levelling method, our fixing team found the walls simple to set down. It’s a system we shall certainly consider on future earth retention schemes.”
