Freelancer earnings analysis has revealed a 0.5% rise to a weekly average of £916 for subcontractors and a 2.5% growth from the figures reported in October
London saw the biggest regional increase with freelance construction workers earnings up 2.3% to £908, followed by the South West, up 1.6% to £848, and the East of England, up 1.3% to £957, analysis from Hudson Contract reveals.
Hudson Contract’s regional breakdown shows earnings in the South East hit a record high in November, rising by 0.8% to £927 a week. Major projects include the East-West Rail link and a number of large housebuilding programmes.
Ian Anfield, managing director of Hudson Contract, said: “The latest purchasing managers index for construction shows that housebuilding has been the most resilient part of the industry in 2019.
“Most of our clients are in housebuilding and are busy, which is driving demand for highly skilled freelancers. They are earning the equivalent annual salary of £44,000.”
Contract’s monthly figures offer an insight into freelancer earnings pay trends in the £90bn construction industry, which accounts for 6.7% of the UK economy and supports 2.9m jobs.
PBC Today reported an increase of 2.5% in November for freelancer earnings – a weekly average of £911 for subcontractors.
