The first regional prizes have been presented to the winners of this year’s LABC Building Excellence Awards by insulation specialist Actis
Virtual presentations for the LABC Building Excellence Awards will be taking place twice weekly until early October, with this week’s online events celebrating professional expertise in London and the North West.
The annual awards – usually black-tie events taking place at glitzy venues across England and Wales – are open to organisations which have used Local Authority Building Control for their projects and are aimed at enabling construction professionals to gain recognition and increase their reputation within the industry.
LABC Building Excellence Awards reward excellent buildings, outstanding companies, partnerships and individuals who go that extra mile.
Factors taken into account when selecting winners include high levels of compliance with building regulations, effective working relationships with LABC surveyors, outstanding craftsmanship, technical innovation, sustainability, an ability to solve technical problems with creative solutions and innovative products and the skills to overcome difficult site conditions.
The awards are open to building control surveyors, builders, architects, and designers.
Actis sponsors two of the dozen award categories in each region. One is best local builder or craftsperson, which saw Keswick developments in Haringey winning the London category and Liverpool’s J Beckwith Builders win in the North West.
In The London region, the best change of use of an existing building award went to Harefield Place in Ickenham, Middlesex for its project to convert and extend a Georgian mansion to create 25 luxurious million pound plus apartments in nine acres of greenbelt land.
In the North West this award went to The White Lion Hotel in Stockport, a 14th-century coaching inn which has been transformed into 11 rent-to-buy apartments and food and retail outlets after lying derelict for a decade.
