Caddick Construction has been awarded a £25m contract to build a new teaching facility on the Openshaw Campus of The Manchester College

The state-of-the-art venue forms part of LTE Group’s visionary investment strategy that includes a brand new Openshaw Campus in the city centre, responding to the increasing demand for training and skills in the region.

Pre-works have already commenced and the build is expected to take 14 months, with facilities due to open to the first students in September 2021.

The Manchester College is one of the largest Further Education colleges in the UK and largest single provider of 16-19, adult and higher education in Greater Manchester. More than 25% of Greater Manchester’s learning provision is undertaken by the college.

The largest estate reshape in the sector

Managing director of Caddick Construction’s North West office, Ian Threadgold, said: “Caddick is delighted to be at the forefront of the one of the largest estate reshapes in the education sector.

“The project will provide high-quality teaching and learning environments for students, staff, and employers and see the college’s facilities move into broader city communities offering long-term benefits.”

LTE group chief executive, John Thornhill, said: “We are delighted to award Caddick Construction the contract to provide a bespoke site where our sports, construction, motor vehicle, and healthcare students can gain up to the minute skills working alongside employers, and ultimately bolstering the economy across Greater Manchester.”
