Stoford Developments has appointed McLaren Construction as the main contractor for the £26.7m headquarters for Metaswitch in London

McLaren Construction will build the 66,000 sq ft office building for Metaswitch on a one-acre site in Genotin Road, Enfield, North London, on behalf of the leading property developer.

Work is expected to start on site this month (March) on the construction of the five-storey building, which will comprise a ground-floor reception with café, state-of-the-art data centre, rooftop conference centre as well as feature, full-height atrium, for up to 500 employees. A basement car park will accommodate 96 vehicles.

The move comes as part of the global company’s plans to grow its headquarters by consolidating its three buildings into one location. Metaswitch will sign a 15-year lease once the building is completed.

Stoford director Gerard Ludlow said: “We’re pleased to have reached the next stage of this major investment for Metaswitch by appointing a contractor to deliver this impressive headquarters.

“It’s not only good news for the company, which is growing, it is also good news for the town, because a major employer is committed to remaining in the area where it started more than 30 years ago, creating new jobs and opportunities. The local community and Enfield Council have been extremely supportive throughout the process and we’re now looking forward to beginning on site.”

Stoford Developments and McLaren Construction will deliver a Grade-A building and will aim to achieve the BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard. The build is expected to take approximately 20 months, with completion due in Autumn 2020.

Jay Newman, McLaren’s Regional Managing Director, South said: “McLaren has successfully delivered a number of developments for Stoford and we are thrilled to be working with them again. We have an extensive portfolio of commercial offices of the highest quality and we look forward to delivering a new home for Metaswitch.”

Martin Lund, CEO of Metaswitch, said: “Metaswitch is delighted to be working with Stoford and McLaren Construction to create a stand out working environment for our employees and visitors. This will give us a stunning building which will help us attract and retain the best talent to maintain our position as one of the world’s best in our field. It is a very exciting project for us, and we are very grateful to Enfield Council for its assistance in making it possible.”
