McLaren Construction has been selected by mixed-use developer First Base and Patron Capital to deliver the £120m redevelopment of the former Amex House in Brighton

McLaren is appointed as principal contractor for Edward Street Quarter, a mixed-use development that will deliver 170,000 sqft of Grade A offices, alongside space for independent coffee shops and restaurants. The project will also include 168 new homes, comprising a mix of private and affordable housing to meet local demand.

Demolition of Amex House is complete, with construction set to commence in May 2019. The project will employ over 1,000 people on site over the duration of the development and support up to 2,000 jobs when complete.

The Edward Street Quarter scheme, designed by BuckleyGrayYeoman, is inspired by Brighton’s eclectic street scene and will introduce a new, high-quality public realm, with three new public spaces created by renowned landscape designers Spacehub.

First Base is developing Edward Street Quarter in partnership with Patron Capital. The joint venture secured planning consent for the development in July 2018.

Steve Eccles, Project Director at First Base, said: “We are pleased to appoint McLaren, which has a demonstrable track record in delivering complex mixed-use schemes.

“We look forward to working with them to deliver this exciting scheme, which responds to local demand for high-quality workspace and homes.”

David Gavin and Jay Newman, Regional Managing Directors, McLaren Construction said: “We are delighted to be working with First Base and Patron Capital to deliver this impressive scheme in the centre of Brighton.

“This contract marks the start of our work on this exciting development, as well as continued growth for McLaren in the region. Our strong experience in building mixed-use developments will help to ensure its success.”
