Fluor Corporation’s Advanced Technologies & Life Sciences business is currently designing a portable mental health Smart Pod than can be easily transported anywhere in the world to respond to immediate medical need, such as global disasters

The portable mental health Smart Pod is being designed by Fluor for the Baylor College of Medicine in collaboration with a team of experts at Baylor College of Medicine. Presently, the team is focussing on architectural and engineering design drawings for the fabrication of the Smart Pod.

‘Deployable and expandable’

The president of Fluor’s Advanced Technologies & Life Sciences business Juan Hernández commented:

“The Smart Pod will be deployable and expandable. It will be utilised to support both individual and group therapy for patients in locations where access to mental healthcare is challenging.”

Once designs for the Smart Pod have been drawn up and finalised, the unit will be deployed and expanded in Houston’s Harris County Precinct 2 as part of Commissioner Adrian Garcia’s access to healthcare initiative.

Baylor College of Medicine is a private, independent health sciences centre in Houston, within the world’s largest medical centre Texas Medical Center.
