Modular Homes will help tackle homelessness in Hertfordshire by installing eight purpose-built, modular homes in Hemel Hempstead, following permission granted from Dacorum Borough Council

In order to tackle homelessness in Hertfordshire, Modular Homes has been granted planning permission to install eight SoloHaus homes  near Aragon Close. SoloHaus have been provided by the UK’s second-largest privately-owned housebuilder, The Hill Group.

SoloHaus are designed, furnished and equipped for a single person to live in. The independent space and a safe environment has ensured that vulnerable residents will be supported and protected in these residencies. The aim is to help these residents to adjust to more permanent accommodation.

SoloHaus has designed the homes to Future Homes Standards and exceeded building regulations for sound insulation and energy efficiency. The housing is considered very affordable, with electricity for each SoloHaus costing just £5/week.

Each unit is complete with all essentials to help the resident adjust

Each SoloHaus is purpose built in factories in the West Midlands by The Hill Group and their manufacturing partner, Volumetric Modular. Every home arrives ready for installation, complete with furniture, cutlery, white goods, bedding, and a wardrobe filled with clothes.

The properties have been designed specifically as follow-on accommodation for vulnerable individuals. They offer a viable housing solution for people experiencing homelessness, whilst reducing the typical expenses associated with traditional temporary accommodation.

Funding for seven of the modular homes comes from the council. The Hill Group have added a further unit as part of Foundation 200, a £15million initiative by the company’s chief executive, Andy Hill, to donate 200 modular homes to local authorities and homelessness charities by 2025.

Andy Hill, group chief executive of The Hill Group commented:

“We’re proud to be working with our partners Dacorum Borough Council to provide the very first SoloHaus homes in Hertfordshire, giving vulnerable individuals safe, secure homes in which to rebuild their lives.”
