A new development of 159 homes for first-time buyers and families in Farnborough will soon be under construction due to a collaboration between Southern Housing Group and CALA Homes

Planning permission for the development was granted in early 2019 and construction work is due to start immediately, in accordance with COVID-19 safe working guidelines. The first handover is due to take place in February 2022.

Southern Housing Group will directly acquire 88 out of the 159 properties, ranging from one to four bedrooms. The new homes will be offered for shared ownership, private sale, affordable rent and social rent.

Recognising the pressing need for affordable homes in the area, Southern Housing Group will deliver a total of 23 homes for social rent, going beyond the legal section 106 requirement.

The development further boosts Southern Housing Group’s presence in the area, after Esher-based Crown Simmons Housing joined the Group in April 2020. Crown Simmons owns and manages around 700 homes in London and the South East.

7,500 new homes before 2027

Southern Housing’s director of New Business & Regeneration, Patrick Duffy, said: “This new development of 159 properties will bring much needed affordable housing to the area and help towards the Group’s corporate plan to deliver 7,500 new homes before 2027.

“The delivery of this project also shows the commitment of Southern Housing Group and its partners despite COVID-19.”

Oliver Jolley, Senior Land Manager at CALA Homes (Thames), said: “We are proud to be delivering this exciting new development that will support the local area and transform the space into a vibrant new community, which benefits from excellent links to local employment opportunities.”
