Court Collaboration has been given approval by Birmingham City Council to deliver 392 new apartments as part of the wider New Garden Square regeneration on the Calthorpe Estate
New Garden Square will encompass up to 500,000 sq ft of Grade A office accommodation, residential properties, bars, restaurants and convenience stores.
The scheme will be set around a public realm garden square, formed from an eclectic series of gardens and mature trees, and will retain the existing Grade II listed buildings fronting Hagley Road.
New Garden Square masterplan
The £93m scheme will be Court Collaboration’s third build-to-rent project in the region and will be a key aspect of the wider New Garden Square masterplan, being developed by Calthorpe Estates and U+I. The project will see the transformation of the outdated commercial estate into a vibrant 10.7-acre mixed-use destination.
Court Collaboration will work alongside Calthorpe Estates to deliver a high-quality collection of spacious one, two and three-bedroom properties to New Garden Square, which will also benefit from private car parking spaces.
It will benefit from the Metro extension up the Hagley Road from Birmingham city centre, with an Edgbaston Village terminus stop opposite the scheme. The new SPRINT network will follow the Metro’s arrival and continue along Hagley Road to Halesowen and Dudley in advance of the arrival of HS2.
Developments which support local communities and economies
Alex Neale, managing director at Court Collaboration, said: “New Garden Square will be a fantastic addition to the city and will bring this currently outdated site firmly into the 21st Century. We are committed to delivering developments which support local communities and economies, and New Garden Square will be no exception.
“The properties will be built using a wide range of modern and sustainable building methods, to offer a desirable rental investment opportunity in the city.
“We are thrilled to have now received planning permission from Birmingham City Council and look forward to starting works on site shortly.”
Construction works on the apartments are expected to commence on site this spring, with completion anticipated by Q2 2022.
