More than £6m has been granted to councils to begin work on Housing Zones across the country in a bid to increase the number of properties available…
Tens of thousands of homes are set to be built under government plans to develop on brownfield land. As part of this development plan, the government announced it would set up Housing Zones, which will bring together councils and private contractors to deliver 34,000 new properties.
Today, the government announced it has invested more than £6m in the next stage in the programme. The money will be used to build the first 19 Housing Zones and will move closer to the government’s target to deliver a million homes by 2020. It is expected at least 28 Housing Zones will eventually deliver up to 45,000 properties.
This latest round of funding adds to the £1.2bn Starter Home Fund, which will be used to prepare brownfield land for at least 30,000 homes.
Housing Minister Brandon Lewis said: “Housing Zones offer enormous potential to use brownfield land for new homes which is why this government is determined to get them built out as soon as possible.
“This funding will play an important part in getting work underway which will lead to new homes and more security for aspiring homeowners.”
