Plans have been put to the borough council to redevelop the centre of Cotgrave town centre.
Seven years worth of planning to revamp the centre of Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire, has been put before Rushcliffe Borough Council.
The plans comprise of a 223,427 sq ft scheme in the centre of Cotgrave, a former mining town. It will include the refurbishment of 10 existing retail units, the redevelopment of existing residential buildings into office space, as well as a medical centre, library, and police station.
The scheme, which can trace its origins back as far as 2009, will be led by Barratt Developments and is a partnership between Rushcliffe Borough Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, HCA, Metropolitan, Police, Belvoir Health Group, and Cotgrave Town Council.
The plans include the creation a new public open space, which will be located in front of the shops. To makes space for this the existing health centre, library and police station will be demolished and transferred to a new multi-service centre on the site of Scotland Bank.
Allan Joyce Architects of Nottingham is designing the public realm and retail space. In a statement, the firm said: “The long run of retail units will have a comprehensive external refurbishment, with new shopfronts, signage and landscaped area to the front.
“At first floor the vacant flats will be converted into new business space accessed from a central entrance to be formed in one of the currently vacant retail units.
“The overall effect of these measures will be of a complete remodelling of the town centre making it a vibrant and attractive place for all.”
