Developers have revised an application for planning permission to build 135 new homes in Whitfield following protestations from the community.

The plans from developer Abbey Homes were revised to reduce the number of homes by two. The application also includes increased green spaces and provisions to allow future development of the A2 road network if necessary.

Objections to planning application raised

The new application for planning permission was made available to the community this week and includes 223 documents. These will have to be looked over by district councillors and planning officials. More than 130 comments—most of which raised objections to the scheme—are included in the document.

Among the objections raised is the fact the scheme is outside the annual phasing, meaning it undermines the district council’s 20 year masterplan laid out in the Whitfield Urban expansion plan.
