Resurfacing work to get underway at Temple Gate

The new road layout at Temple Gate will be resurfaced over a three week period of night works, marking a major milestone in work to transform the busy traffic intersection

The resurfacing work will mean contractors can then progress with the installation of new and upgraded pedestrian crossings, bus shelters and cycling infrastructure.

There will be a series of overnight closures starting on Sunday 28 July from 8pm to 6am, followed by Monday-Friday overnight closures (8pm-6am) from 29 July to 16 August.

Contractors will resurface roads and paint new lining on Redcliffe Way and from Bath Bridges to Victoria Street, Temple Way and the Friary.

Businesses in the area will be open as usual with pedestrian routes maintained throughout. The works mark further progress for the Temple Gate project scheduled for completion in Autumn 2019.

Councillor Kye Dudd, cabinet member for Transport, said: “The resurfacing works mark another step forward for this project which will improve Temple Gate for all those who use or pass through every day.

“I recognise the inconvenience caused while we undertake these important works. We’ve scheduled the resurfacing to take place overnight and during the quieter summer period to minimise the disruption to the city and its residents. I look forward to seeing a key element of the final scheme delivered with much more to come in the near future.”

During the overnight closures:

  • Vehicles should follow diversions marked on site but, where possible, those planning a journey through the area are advised to leave extra time or consider alternative routes.
  • Access to Temple Meads station will be maintained throughout the resurfacing but lane and turning restrictions (i.e. left-turn only on exit) will apply when work is taking place by Station Approach.
  • Diversions to bus routes will apply. Details of these will be available on Travelwest.
