Plans to regenerate The Mannings on Surry Street were approved last week which will see the creation of 74 new homes
Adur District Council’s planning committee approved revised plans for The Mannings on Surry Street.
The revised plans include attractive new entrances to the building.
The regeneration project will provide 74 new homes, classed as 100% affordable, up to eighty-six bicycle storage spaces to encourage environmentally friendly ways of getting around, as well as helping to reduce the local rush hour traffic.
The Mannings on Surry Street is well-served by public transport with bus stops and Shoreham-by-Sea railway station both less than five minutes’ walk away.
The plans also include a residents’ car club, eliminating the need for each household to have their own car.
Adur District Council’s executive member for regeneration, councillor Brian Boggis, said: “The Mannings redevelopment is a great example of how brownfield developments that include genuine regeneration can deliver real benefits for Shoreham.
“This scheme will help to revive a local area, promote cleaner transport and improve housing options for local people.”
Resident consultation has taken place to ensure the communities input and aspirations have been considered into the final design with key priorities of accessibility and inclusiveness being met.
Cathy Bacon, Southern Housing Group’s head of regeneration, commented: “We are delighted the Council has approved this much-needed investment. It will benefit the residents of The Mannings and the wider community.
“Of course, Southern Housing Group will be working closely with the existing residents, neighbours and the council to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum and properly managed. This redevelopment scheme is part of our long-term commitment to Shoreham and it is great to know that the Council shares our vision.”
Once complete, residents of The Mannings on Surry Street will be able to benefit from energy efficient homes, as well as improved accessibility for people with mobility restrictions.
Southern Housing Group has recently purchased newly built flats in Shoreham so that people living in The Mannings can opt to remain close to Surry Street during construction.
