Tilbury Douglas has successfully completed the theatre refurbishment at Walsall Manor Hospital, on behalf of the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust

The Trust identified the need for the trauma theatres to be upgraded, which included a complete refurbishment of two theatres, as part of its winter pressures works due to the pandemic.

Tilbury Douglas delivered the theatre refurbishment works efficiently whilst ensuring one of the theatres remained functional throughout in order to treat patients.

‘A top class environment for patients and staff’

Colin Plant, project director for Walsall Healthcare, said: “The refurbishment of the theatres, including the provision of new ultra clean ventilation systems, has been delivered to a high standard – providing value for money and completed according to the programme.

“Tilbury Douglas’ efforts have bought a facility and equipment, which was well beyond its normal life expectancy, up to modern standards – and provided a top class environment for patients and staff alike.”

‘Completing works on time, without impacting the live hospital environment’

Richard Myatt, contracts manager of building at Tilbury Douglas, commented: “Due to our extensive experience with Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, we were able to complete these works on time without impacting the live hospital environment.

“Our work at Walsall Manor continues with the major development of Walsall Manor Emergency Department, which we look forward to handing over later this year.”

The project was delivered in partnership with Tilbury Douglas Engineering.
