Pregnancy loss charity CRADLE has partnered with Tilbury Douglas to launch its first pregnancy loss service in Wales, at the £130m refurbishment of the Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil

The launch of the pregnancy loss service follows on from the recent launch of Tilbury Douglas’ UK wide partnership with CRADLE, which focuses on supporting anyone affected by pregnancy loss, as well as providing resources to healthcare professionals across the health board.

More than 40 NHS Hospitals have a CRADLE early pregnancy loss service across England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, with Prince Charles Hospital being the first Welsh site, which officially launches in May 2022.

The partnership is also being supported by Legacy in the Community (LitC), a charity that supports social inclusivity, which will lead on the collection and collation of the comfort bags.

The refurbishment of the Prince Charles Hospital aims to improve patient care and the working environment for staff.

The new facility will help to support those affected by pregnancy loss

Lucy Davies, head of social value at Tilbury Douglas, commented: “This new partnership we have facilitated between CRADLE and Prince Charles Hospital is great testament to our commitment to our sustainability strategy called People, Planet and Performance (PPP).

“Ensuring we play a key role in delivering a positive impact to the communities we work within, building integral partnerships and working collaboratively is crucial to our approach.

“We are looking forward to seeing how CRADLE’s new services at the site will support those affected by pregnancy loss, and healthcare professions who themselves provide vital care within the local and wider community.”

The service will also provide training, support and pathway development to the healthcare professionals and colleagues

Louise Zeniou, CEO of CRADLE, also stated: “We are delighted to support Tilbury Douglas to launch CRADLE at Prince Charles Hospital, the partnership will also allow CRADLE to provide training, support and pathway development to the healthcare professionals and colleagues, complimenting the care provided to anyone receiving care during or following pregnancy loss.”

Tilbury Douglas and Legacy in the Community will be delivering the CRADLE pregnancy loss comfort bag project for The Prince Charles Hospital.

The comfort bags are filled with essential toiletries for an overnight hospital stay and are provided to anyone receiving care during or following pregnancy loss. The charity are also appealing for donations of new, unused toiletries to be delivered to their drop off point.
