Tilbury Douglas has successfully completed and handed over a new teaching facility to the West Oaks School – Woodhouse Learning Campus in Leeds, West Yorkshire
West Oaks School is a school for pupils aged from two to 19 with profound, multiple and complex conditions, as well as for those with autistic spectrum conditions and severe learning difficulties.
The project for Leeds City Council was procured through the Leeds Local Education Partnership, under the Learning Places Programme, which has an emphasis on maximising social value outcomes.
The £10m, three-storey annexe provides the Woodhouse Learning environment with high-quality additional accommodation suitable for a further 80 pupils with effect from September 2021.
The extension links directly to the existing building that was also constructed by Tilbury Douglas.
A vital local infrastructure project
The new facility includes classrooms, specialist rooms, activity halls and a library area. A multi-use games area, extensive landscaping, revised car parking and new mini-bus access complete the redeveloped accommodation.
Paul Ellenor, Yorkshire regional managing director of building at Tilbury Douglas, said: “West Oaks is one of three SEN schools we are currently completing within the Yorkshire and Humber region; these are vital local education infrastructure projects and I’d like to congratulate everyone involved in delivering such a brilliant project.”
