Hewden has expanded its fleet with the purchase of 120 compact excavators. The new equipment will be targeted at tradespeople and small building firms.

The JCB 8008 CTS model will bring in new markets for Hewden and were chosen due to the high performance of the machine in restricted areas such as building or gardens. Micro excavators can be hired by developers, landscapers, groundscare operators, and those undertaking general DIY. The machines are easy to operate and anyone can become proficient in a short time.

Marketing director Kumar Bhamidipati said: “We’ve been involved in the commercial hire sector for more than 40 years but this latest venture is a significant development from our traditional fleet.

“We are investing big on one of the highest performing, smallest form factor excavators on the market, allowing us to service an entirely new customer segment.”

The JCB 8008 CTS has a 9kW engine, extending undercarriage, dig depth and reach, and is able to undertake a wide range of tasks. It has a tubular boom design, which keeps weight down. Hoses are routed through it, providing protection against onsite damage.

It also has a folding safety frame and a choice of rear or front-mounted TOPS protection.

Bhamidipati added: “We’re seeing a lot of demand for this type of product, especially with schemes like the Business Premises Renovation Allowance (BPRA) fuelling small development projects.

“Our new fleet of micro excavators is perfectly suited to those small jobs, as they reduce time, manpower and complexity of construction work within highly restricted areas.”
