Eight jobs have been saved at a Hewden plant hire depot in Nottingham after Nixon Hire took over in a multimillion buyout
Hewden staff working at the Nottingham plant hire depot have been saved from redundancy after the site was bought by Nixon Hire.
The site on Belgrave Road, Bulwell, was purchased in a multimillion pound deal as administrators sell off Hewden’s assets following the firm’s collapse in November last year.
Nixon Hire
Nixon Hire, which has headquarters in Newcastle, said it would base all four of its divisions at the 30,000 sq ft depot. Furthermore, the firm said it expects to recruit at least another six staff members off the back of this takeover.
This latest acquisition by Nixon Hire means the firm now owns 14 sites across the UK and has 450 staff on its books. The firm saw £56.6m turnover, which it is hoping to increase to £90m by 2020.
Speaking to the Nottingham Post, managing director Graham Nixon said: “I’m delighted that we have been able to successfully negotiate taking ownership of this site and the associated equipment.
“I’m also extremely pleased that we have been able to provide employment to staff left uncertain of the depot’s future following the collapse of Hewden.
“It was very important to us to retain the knowledgeable, experienced and local staff to help us take the business forward.
“Nottingham is a prime location for Nixon Hire and falls in line with our plans for expanding our depot network further south.
“It was always on our radar so when the opportunity came along to take over an established business in our sector it was a perfect fit.”
Hewden
Hewden went into administration in November, blaming Brexit for it’s financial woes. The collapse of the firm saw significant redundancies across its 32 depots. However, some sites have been bought by competitors, saving jobs.
