Local Authority Building Control (LABC) represents all local authority building control teams in England and Wales and develops the learning, competences, standards and practices used by nearly 3,800 building control surveyors and technical staff.  LABC, through its network of professional surveyors, advises and supports property owners and professionals, making sure buildings are safe, healthy and efficient and conform to building regulations.

LABC teams are independent, impartial and not for profit. Public service building control is committed to protecting and safeguarding our communities by constantly reviewing surveyor competence and ensuring the performance and standards of our teams.

As the largest building control provider in the UK, our surveyors are based close to your site, meaning no delay for inspections, which can usually be booked for same-day or next day visits. This minimises disruption and wasted time on site. Our local knowledge and contacts with local Fire Officers, Environmental Health, Planning and Highways teams are unrivalled and help with understanding ground conditions, mining or contaminated land identification and remediation.

You can apply online or over the phone and for simple domestic projects can start on site after just 48 hours if you use the Building Notice route.

Our Full Plans application route includes a detailed plan evaluation and approval notice, meaning contractors know that the plan they have quoted for – and are working to – shows full compliance with building regulations. Charges vary depending on the project and location and you can contact your local team here.

Our inspection service is part of the package. Our surveyors agree a bespoke inspection regime for each project and you can request a site visit by phone or use our free inspection request app. When your project is completed, with any outstanding issues resolved, we will then issue a Completion Certificate at no extra cost.

You can also join our network of LABC Partner companies. This scheme fosters and develops relationships between your organisation and our teams anywhere in England and Wales. You will have a dedicated account manager along with a local surveying team based close to your site. There is no extra charge for this service, no contract and no obligation to use us for every project.
