Door set manufacturer JELD-WEN has launched a new RIBA-accredited CPD training course, focusing on specification and long term fire safety strategies
The CPD course, ‘Four Steps to Better Fire Doorset Specification and Long-Term Fire Safety,’ focuses on the crucial role that fire door sets play in a building’s fire safety strategy.
Accredited by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), JELD-WEN’s CPD course is tailored to architects and other design professionals who are responsible for fire safety in building projects.
The Building Safety Act and newer Fire Safety Regulations (2023) have mandated more dire safety inspections and higher compliance standards.
With 57% of the UK public unable to identify if there is a fault with a fire door, it is more pressing than ever that professionals stay educated on the latest regulations and requirements to ensure safe installations.
CPDs are a vital way to keep up with fire safety compliance requirements
Rob Pace, head of sales and business development at JELD-WEN, commented: “Delivering better fire safety standards is a key issue within the industry, but we know that barriers to compliance still exist.
“We have invested over £3m in the development, testing and certification of fire doorsets to ensure they meet the highest industry standards, however, the intended level of protection against the spread of smoke and fire will only be achieved if the product is installed and maintained correctly.
“Meanwhile, regulatory changes have continued to evolve, so it is crucial that decision makers have a robust understanding about their current responsibilities, in order to achieve compliance. The launch of our new accredited CPD training course will play an important part in helping to increase understanding and improve awareness of proper fire door set specification as part of a building’s wider fire safety strategy.”
Other efforts by JELD-WEN to raise awareness of fire safety measures include a data pin solution installed on all new Certifire door sets produced by the company. Using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, the data pins allow users to easily access up-to-date and relevant information by scanning with a smartphone.
The one-hour seminar is available in person or as an online resource
During the fire safety CPD’s one-hour seminar session, delegates will learn about the key considerations that should be in mind when implementing fire doorsets in building projects to achieve compliance.
Topics covered include an explanation of the current fire safety regulations, why procuring the correct fire door set is important, and the installation and maintenance procedures that will ensure door sets perform as intended.
