PBC Today sat down with Residential Fire Protection Limited to discuss how the company has evolved from a small family-owned business to a leading sprinkler provider and a trusted name in fire safety

Residential Fire Protection Limited specialises in the comprehensive design, supply, installation, and commissioning of residential sprinkler systems and dry risers across the UK & Ireland.

With accreditation from BAFSA, FIRAS, and SafeContractor, the company ensures the highest standard of installation, accompanied by seamless project management, all in strict adherence to current standards.

A commitment to excellence and the latest industry standards

Provide an overview of Residential Fire Protection Limited’s history and how it has evolved since its formation.

“Our business began in 2011 as a small family-owned business, quickly making a name for ourselves in the industry by providing our skilled labour pool to some of the biggest sprinkler providers in the country.

“As our business grew, we saw a gap in a very lucrative market and rebranded in 2016 to Residential Fire Protection where, alongside our continued labour only projects, we also undertake the full sprinkler package direct for main contractors, M&E contractors and housing providers to name a few.

“Our continued growth is a testament to our commitment to excellence and the latest industry standards. Our clients depend on us to protect their buildings and their residents, and we take that responsibility very seriously.”

Navigating market shifts and embracing opportunity

How has the company’s focus shifted from providing skilled labour to becoming a main sprinkler provider for housing providers and local authorities?

“Stricter safety regulations and building codes created a surge in demand for sprinkler contractors, resulting in the market becoming more crowded.

“Due to our passion for the industry, experience and most importantly our commitment to the industry standards, we saw the immense potential in diversifying our offerings and shifting from labour only to becoming the main sprinkler provider that our clients can trust.

“This has not only allowed us to tap further into a lucrative market, but allowed further control from the initial enquiry, to the project completion.”

Tailored design, seamless installation, and resident satisfaction

Could you elaborate on the range of products and services offered, especially in the design, installation, and commissioning of sprinkler systems?

“We specialise in the design, supply, installation and commissioning of Residential Sprinkler Systems to BS9251:2021 across a variety of sectors including domestic single-family dwellings, extra care, facilities and care homes, apartments, sheltered and social housing and student accommodation.

“We begin with a site survey and work with our clients to ensure we are providing them with the best solution for their fire protection needs. We then offer customised sprinkler system design services to ensure their building is equipped with the correct category of system for the building occupancy and risk, ensuring the system meets all the relevant requirements.

“Our team of experienced engineers work closely with the design team, ensuring the installation process is efficient and as non-intrusive as possible, minimising any disruption to residents daily routine.

“Once the installation is complete, our commissioning ensures the system meets all the requirements and functionality.

“In addition to the installation and commissioning of the sprinkler system, we work alongside our client and offer the relevant concealment services. We understand that aesthetics are essential in residential properties, so we work closely with our client and designers to ensure the system blends as seamlessly as possible.

“Working solely in residential properties, we understand that resident satisfaction is essential, and we take great care to ensure residents are fully satisfied with our services.

“We offer resident liaison services to ensure the Residential Sprinkler System is installed with minimal disruption, and we are on hand to ensure residents have a point of contact and are fully informed about the installation process and any necessary precautions they may need to take.”

Is Residential Fire Protection Limited excited about or planning any upcoming product launches, partnerships, or collaborations?

“Residential Fire Protection are excited to announce our latest collaboration with EN:Procure.

“We are proud to be one of the appointed contractors on the scheme, which includes installation and repairs across 36 lots for social housing projects in Yorkshire and the Humber, the East Midlands and the North West. We look forward to working alongside EN:Procure and the other SME’s appointed.”

Exceeding industry standards in fire safety and legal requirements

Can you provide insights into the company’s approach to meeting and exceeding industry standards in fire safety and legal requirements?

“As a third party accredited company with BASFA and FIRAS, we show compliance to the top industry standards. We invest in regular training and development programs for our team members to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to handle any project, regardless of its complexity.

“We welcome The Building Safety Act, an important piece of legislation that will have a significant impact on the residential sprinkler industry.

“Companies in the industry will need to adapt to meet the new requirements and ensure that they are providing the highest quality of install, meeting the top industry standards by investing in the latest training and technology. Our company directors have completed training around The Building Safety Act, and we intend to develop the rest of the team in this area, ensuring compliance throughout the business.”
