Trident Fire Protection were commissioned to conduct a fire barrier assessment within the roof void of a local private hospital, and provide an accurate remedial detail to help correct non-compliance caused as part of a new ducting installation.

LiDAR scanning and digital twins granted easy access to a difficult space

Using a LiDAR capture and imaging camera, the job of drawing an accurate representation of the elevation required becomes a simple task, requiring only 1.5 hours on site to capture a colourised point cloud and HD imagery as a reference.

The client was also provided with a detailed, easy to navigate Digital Twin to help them to understand the requirements of the space requiring works, and created a simple but accurate elevation drawing, which could then be annotated to suggest the most appropriate remedial action to make the barrier compliant.

Unlike traditional geometry measurement techniques, using LiDAR removes many of the opportunities for human error from the data capture on site, and provides a permanent data set for referencing site conditions at the time of the survey, without the need for hundred of images which can be awkward to identify the location of.

The automatic overlay of the captured images allows even the most unfamiliar user to immediately understand a space, create their own measurements, and provide support for future projects.
