JELD-WEN have launched a new data pin solution for their door sets that promotes fire safety, and provides easier access to information

The new fire safety data pin is to be installed across all new Certifire doorsets that JELD-WEN produces.

The fire safety pin features Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to provide quick and easy access to information.

Fire safety doors have a golden thread of information

The primary purpose of the fire safety data pin is to provide quick and easy access to accurate and up-to-date information. The information that must be kept up to date and accessible, such as all maintenance records, is known as the golden thread.

Fire safety doors require frequent routine inspections which often rely on paperchains of information, suffer from the possibility of human error, and can have information misplaced or go unrecorded.

The idea of the data pins is to keep its own door’s information stored in a cloud server, and allows any inspector to easily scan and access all the relevant data for that door.

The data stored within the pins include identification, door type, ironmongery, installation details, maintenance records, inspection dates, and compliance certificates.

This will lead to increases in predicting faults, allowing for preventative action and a fall in rates of fire-door related incidents or accidents.

JELD-WEN comment on the fire safety door pin

JELD-WEN R&D senior group manager, Glyn Hauser, said: “As one of the first manufacturers to introduce this advanced data pin system, we’re advocates for greater transparency throughout the supply chain, which we believe is needed to improve modern fire door practice.

“Compliance is in the DNA of every JELD-WEN product, and launching the data pin is an important step in ensuring the Golden Thread can be implemented at the very first opportunity. We believe this capability will allow for better facility management of a building and, ultimately, a safer environment for the people within it.”
