UK Fire Door Training has launched Fire Door Anatomy – a free digital learning platform designed to help professionals across the built environment understand fire doors and their components in greater depth
The resource combines interactive 3D models with about 19,000 words of technical content, an exploded fire door assembly, an educational fire test simulation, and knowledge checks.
Users can explore ten common fire and escape door components, rotate and dismantle the assembly, examine a door closer’s internal workings, and access technical information covering function, materials, specifications, relevant standards, common defects, and inspection considerations.
UK Fire Door Training believes Fire Door Anatomy is the UK’s first interactive 3D learning resource dedicated specifically to fire doors.

Testing simulation allows users to explore fire door faults
The platform also includes an educational fire test simulation that lets users configure a specimen, introduce faults, and explore their potential consequences.
Scenarios include oversized gaps, unsuitable glazing and missing intumescent protection around a lock.
The simulation is an educational tool, not a predictor of real-world fire performance, helping users explore how individual details relate to the broader principles behind fire door performance.
Making access to technical information easier
Two separate consultancies independently reviewed the technical content as part of the development process, with the reviews totalling 134 pages. The team considered and incorporated reviewer comments before launch, adding another layer of technical scrutiny.
Jonny Millard, managing director of UK Fire Door Training, said: “We wanted to build the fire door learning resource we felt the industry should already have.
“Fire doors are physical systems, but much of the learning around them is still delivered through flat images, slides, diagrams and PDFs. Those formats still have an important place, but they shouldn’t limit what fire safety education can be.
“Fire Door Anatomy is designed to make technical information easier to explore without sacrificing depth. We’ve also made the whole resource free because we want useful fire door knowledge to travel as widely as possible.”
