Daniel Smejkal, VDC team leader at the Prague Airport, shared how Revizto became a fundamental part of their success
Daniel’s team began using Revizto two years ago, initially for the airport’s development projects, from the design phase, to the construction phase and into the operations.
In 2020, they discovered a new use case for Revizto when air traffic dropped during the Covid-19 lockdown. Besides traditional workflows, they started using Revizto as a tool for creating a digital twine of the existing airport buildings.
Another important project Daniel’s team worked on (which is an entirely different case) is the digital twin project, where Revizto is being utilized as a tool to collect data from the field into one common environment. The data is then used to create Revit models at a later time.
What challenges did the team face before onboarding Revizto?
- Sharing federated 3D models in an unknown environment;
- Communicating issue management between Daniel’s team and the client/design teams;
- Collecting data in the field;
- Exporting Navisworks models in Revit regularly into the Navisworks environment.

Daniel’s team used Revizto on an infrastructure project where a utility tunnel needed to be built. They used Revizto throughout the whole design phase. The case was, as usual, the coordination of the 3D models, communication within the design team, and a model review from the client side.
The same workflow applies to another large project his team is working on – the renovation of the administration building in Prague Airport’s Terminal One, where the airport’s headquarters is located.
Revizto is easy for non-BIM personnel to use
A key benefit of Revizto is that it is easy for non-BIM personnel to learn and navigate the software. In addition, the ability to access all working components in one common data environment greatly reduces confusion and coordination issues that may arise throughout the project’s lifecycle.
Daniel stated that it has been very easy for him to learn the software and implement it because the user interface is quite comfortable to use. He believes that the great thing about Revizto is that it is simple and easy for non-BIM users to learn. Training his colleagues at the airport was a seamless process, and he’s getting only positive feedback on this.

One common data environment
A common data environment for large-scale projects is necessary for keeping everything organized and coordinated. Daniel is constantly working on sophisticated, multifaceted projects that involve many stakeholders.
Daniel’s team was able to minimize the number of text notes in the Excel files to keep track of the tasks they established during the design meetings. Now, they use Revizto to track all of their issues and tasks.
One of the more prominent goals that the team behind airport construction aim for is minimizing the impact on the airport’s operations. There are a lot of passengers both inside and outside of the terminal buildings.
Airplanes, both large and small, also navigate the vicinity. As such, minimizing the impact on the operations comes first, and it should not cause delays or other mishaps at airports.
Since Daniel’s team can visualize the design in Revizto’s federated environment, where they can show or see the larger scale of the airport together with the intended design, the construction team has been able to minimize the impact on the airport’s operation. Daniel noted that Revizto is a “huge time saver compared to traditional methods.
