3D laser scanning robots, a cheeky BIM and tonic and Dame Judith Hackitt were some of the sights that PBC Today enjoyed at this years’ Digital Construction Week

2023’s Digital Construction Week (DCW) was a resounding success, with over 150 exhibitors – including Kier, Sir Robert MacAlpine and the Nemetschek Group – and nine theatres featuring talks from industry icons such as the Building Advisory Committee’s Aman Sharma, Travis Perkins’ COO Frank Elkins and Dame Judith Hackitt.

Industry members big and small discussed the future of digital construction

In “A digitalised construction industry- Why standardised product data and building safety inextricably linked”, a panel led by Dame Judith Hackitt, Angus MacDonald and Frank Elkins, of SME housebuilder Galion and Travis Perkins respectively, spoke about how collaboration is key to bringing all players into the future.

Galion has benefited from partnering with Travis Perkin’s Wholehouse platform, which allows Galion to access over 60 manufacturers and specialists that they would have struggled to make contact with otherwise.

Here’s what exhibitors had to say about Digital Construction Week

Chloe Leigh, head of UK Marketing at Payapps

“It’s a good, large show, very well attended. There seems to be a lot of appetite to have a look at the latest innovations in the industry, latest tech- and obviously since COVID, one of the bigger exhibitions that we’ve had. And I think everybody’s keen to get out there and start networking again.”

Christian Friedrich, Product Owner Verifi3D, Xinapps

“It’s quite colourful and pleasurable and environmental.”

Michael East, strategic product consultant at Procore

“It’s been amazing. Had a lot of good conversations with a lot of good contractors out there as well. And we’ve also been looking at some integration partners, so we’ve had some good conversations there, and so far been really well attended.”

David Simpson, global product manager, Elecosoft

“It’s always great to get out there, talk to industry experts, see the technology and how it’s transforming, changing, evolving. Really good to be here again. It’s just great to talk to people as well and really understand their challenges and see where our solutions fit and can really solve problems.”

Ash Curzon, Revizto

“It’s been really good. Probably the biggest, I think that we’ve been to-or certainly myself,  probably my 8th or 9th Digital Construction Week. More vendors, more people, the atmosphere’s great and we’re really happy to be here.”

Neeral Shah, founder and CEO at Yardlink

“It’s great. We’ve already met some fantastic potential customers as well. Large contractors to small, all interested in what we’re offering here, so looking to innovate in the way they procure their materials and equipment.”

Maria Hudson, Zutec CMO

“It’s been very busy this morning. I think it’s a great place to kind of network and find people that you either can partner with or get to know better, but also understand what other players are doing in the industry. It’s a good opportunity to kind of see what tech is out there.”

The next DCW is at ExCeL London on 5-6 June 2024

There was even a chance to kick back at the end of the day with a celebratory BIM and tonic, courtesy of the team at Nemetschek, which your intrepid correspondent enjoyed thoroughly.
