Pan-European insulation specialist Actis, which is determined to encourage more sustainable construction manufacturers, is keen to share its “doing more with less” and “inspired by nature” principles with fellow professionals

The first phrase refers to the company’s three-pronged approach to sustainability – using fewer raw materials, using no water during the production process and using minimal energy during manufacture.

The second can specifically be applied to its much-revered Hybris insulation and its increasingly popular two-in-one Eolis HC – of which air, a natural insulating material, is a key component.

Hybris traps air among the many segments of its honeycomb structure – its physical design, inspired by the all-important bee, echoing the importance of our delicate eco-system.

And reflective insulation with an integrated vapour barrier, Eolis HC, is based on Actis’ revolutionary Triplex technology. This consists of a number of layers of reflective films, each separated by a thin layer of fibre, trapping air between each section, thus boosting thermal performance.

Europe’s only Cradle to Cradle Certified® reflective insulation

Hybris publicly exemplifies the company’s impressive environmental credentials, as it is Europe’s only Cradle to Cradle Certified® reflective insulation – an accreditation it has held for a number of years, having gone through a rigorous assessment process.

It means Hybris meets stringent sustainability criteria – product circularity, material health, clean air and climate protection, water and soil stewardship and social fairness.

Actis’ zero-waste production process, which sees all off-cuts recovered, crushed and reintroduced into the manufacturing process, means all its products are 100% recyclable. And minimal water is used during production.

The lightness and compactness of air-filled Hybris means more thermal capacity can be carried per lorryload than traditional solid insulation or fibreglass, reducing fuel consumption.

It contains no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or harmful chemical components such as formaldehyde, is guaranteed non-irritant and classified A+ for indoor air quality according to the NF EN ISO 16000 standard.

And in keeping with its “inspired by nature” mantra, Actis offsets an element of its carbon use by planting native mature plane trees along the Canal du Midi, near its manufacturing plant in south-west France.
