The North East Institute of Technology (NEIoT) has opened applications for a suite of industry-ready retrofit courses

Applications are open for a suite of retrofit courses at the North East Institute of Technology.

The suite consists of three bespoke courses that seek to address the retrofitting skills shortage by training new retrofit advisors, assessors, and coordinators.

The retrofit courses are for new and experienced

The three courses are designed for unemployed individuals who are looking to reskill, as well as those employed within the construction industry who wish to upskill.

Those who complete the courses are awarded essential certifications covering many aspects of the retrofitting process within the PAS 2035 quality standard.

This will qualify them to work within the sector.

The courses will be offered by New College Durham, in collaboration with Middlesbrough college, East Durham college, and Tyne Coast college.

The courses come at a time where it is estimated that a majority of the 3.4m homes across the North East and Yorkshire will need domestic retrofit, and 67,000 new full-time retrofit positions are needed to meet the 2050 net-zero target.

An opportunity to contribute to carbon targets

NEIoT director, Sharon Grant, said: “We are thrilled to be accepting applications for the new courses that will address the practical skills needs of the sector. By integrating industry expertise, the courses align with industry standards and best practices while incorporating the latest developments in retrofitting technologies and methodologies.

“The complex nature of the retrofit process and the roles required to deliver to a high standard presents a substantial opportunity for people across the North East and Tees Valley and it’s exciting to be part of the journey.”

Darush Dodds, Esh Group’s corporate affairs and ESG director, said: “These courses have been meticulously developed and designed with industry partners at the fore, therefore employers – be that social housing providers, local authorities or those in the supply chain – can be confident that their employees will gain a high quality, accredited learning experience and become skilled retrofit professionals ready for the job at hand.”
