New research has revealed that the majority of Brits support new Biodiversity Net Gain rules to increase the number of plants and wildlife in their local area
52% of respondents said that they would be more likely to support developments if housebuilders were legally required to ensure their projects improve the community’s natural environment.
According to Natural England, there have been over 33,000 downloads of the government’s tool for calculating BNG.
What is Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)?
Biodiversity Net Gain is a planning policy that requires property developers to invest in measures in their development’s local area that will increase biodiversity by 10% in order to secure planning permission.
Large sites will need to adhere to the new BNG guidance from January, while small sites have until April to begin complying.
BNG will help to create greener spaces and mitigate habitat loss
The government is now preparing for the implementation period of this policy and is backing the use of innovative tech solutions to ensure an easy transition for developers.
Robin McArthur, chair of the Joe’s Blooms Advisory Board, said: “BNG gives the housebuilding sector an opportunity to contribute to the UK’s biodiversity.
“For the first time, new developments will result in the reappearance of nature in our local communities, creating greener spaces and reversing habitat loss. Joe’s Blooms are ready to support planners and developers of all sizes on this journey – providing a complete, easy-to-use solution to BNG.”
