BNP Paribas has introduced a new sustainability framework solution. It provides a detailed service to help clients achieve their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives

The sustainability framework serves as an organisational solution. This can help companies reach multiple sustainability targets at both the asset and portfolio levels. By encompassing sustainability targets, fund strategies, and property, the framework enables a tailored approach to upgrades throughout the entire lifecycle of assets.

This sustainability framework provides assistance in managing upgrades, working closely with project teams, and engaging with occupants to meet sustainability goals. These goals include achieving Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES), reaching net zero emissions, and participating in initiatives like NABERS. The framework also includes ongoing monitoring to ensure effective governance practices are maintained.

Rethinking approaches to retrofitting

The framework leverages both retrofitting and collaboration with occupiers to achieve goals through an asset’s lifecycle. This approach is important as there is a growing realisation that a retrofit is not the ultimate solution as anticipated.

Instead, consistent collaboration with a broader range of operational stakeholders, particularly occupiers, has become important in bridging the performance gap and reaching net-zero targets. This collaboration not only reduces energy consumption and costs but also ensures a sustainable and efficient outcome.

The sustainability framework can improve EPC ratings

“The real estate sector has been heavily focusing on MEES legislative changes of late; however, it’s important to note that this does not future proof against energy costs or emissions. We know occupiers will be looking for energy efficient buildings in the future, based on use, not just on EPC,” said Donna Rourke, head of ESG and sustainability at BNP Paribas Real Estate.

“Therefore, to futureproof, we have developed this framework to continually map the pathway to comply with legislation and track the route to net zero. This integrated and holistic approach aims to remove barriers and lean on the right built environment professionals at the right time,” she added.

BNP Paribas Real Estate provides guidance to global investors, funds, and corporate occupiers in developing effective ESG strategies. Their expertise helps clients plan for sustainable futures for their real estate assets and portfolios.

Through a team of 100 ESG and sustainability experts, BNP Paribas Real Estate offers tailored and solutions to elevate the sustainability performance, occupier engagement, and social and economic value of buildings.
