Myo New Street - sustainable engineering

Sustainable engineering company Hive Group has been appointed by Landsec to convert their Myo New Street Square site to an all-electric, flexible workspace

Once completed, the six-floor building will be able to accommodate a range of occupier requirements while using no fossil fuels.

In response to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi’s) Net Zero Standard, Landsec is attempting to decarbonise its portfolio and achieve its net zero targets by 2040. A crucial aspect of this is the electrification of Myo New Street Square.

Landsec’s £135m investment in their net zero transition plan will help achieve this change.

Eco-friendly heating will be installed

The new infrastructure at Myo New Street Square will include the integration of air source heat pumps (ASHP).

ASHPs effectively handle the building’s primary heating and cooling requirements.

The system incorporates the Hybrid Variable Refrigeration Volume heating (HVRV) to efficiently manage the thermal loads across all floors of the building.

This innovative approach will result in increased electrical demand while optimising the overall energy efficiency of the facility. The team will support Collins Construction in delivering Myo’s fit-out.

Hive Group are overseeing multiple sustainable engineering projects

Hive Group were recently selected to take on a similar project. They were selected to implement a new ventilation and sustainable heating system as part of Hamley’s flagship Regent Street store’s decarbonisation initiative.

Hive Group will replace the building’s gas-fired boilers and air-cooled chillers with sustainable ASHPs.

A new central ventilation system will also be fitted. This upgrade will enable heat recovery, saving significant energy across the building.

Hive Group’s also delivered sustainable engineering services for Myo Liverpool Street, an area of 120,000 sq. ft., from 2020 to 2022.

Myo Liverpool Street achieved WELL Platinum certification, making it the office space with the highest platinum rating in the City of London.

“We understand the philosophy behind the Myo brand and are proud to be once again to be supporting Landsec’s unwavering commitment to achieving net zero targets for its workspaces,” said Matt Lubbock, Hive group director.

“Our services infrastructure for Myo New Street Square, which combines electrification of the building with flexible services, will deliver an optimised working environment for a range of occupiers who prioritise sustainability and employee wellbeing for their workplace. Landsec’s ambitions for its workspaces give us the opportunity to be truly, technically innovative in our problem-solving and design delivery.”
