Muse, Morgan Sindall’s nationwide placemaker and urban regeneration business, has joined the Passivhaus Trust

Muse have become the largest private developer to join the Passivhaus Trust.

The Passivhaus Trust is a non-profit organisation which encourages the adoption of the Passivhaus standard, methodology, and principles in construction throughout the UK. This leads to more comfortable, healthy, and sustainable homes and buildings.

Muse will lend their Passivhaus expertise

Muse already has experience with constructing buildings to Passivhaus standards, and so is a good candidate to advise the Trust in supporting the construction industry in its net zero targets.

One of the buildings that Muse helped complete recently is the Greenhaus in Salford, the largest Passivhaus affordable housing development in the North West to date.

Muse has also begun work on Willohaus, another Salford Passivhaus affordable housing project for 100 homes, as a part of Salford’s £2.5bn Salford Crescent Regeneration project.

More than 65,000 homes have been built to Passivhaus standards across Europe, and offers a method to help with net zero and carbon reduction targets.

Muse will gain benefits from the Trust

As a member, Muse will gain access to specialised training and research, and will contribute to events and seminars intended to increase understanding of sustainability targets and standards. Muse will have a role in the Passivhaus mission to bring more sustainable and energy efficient homes.

Phil Mayall, managing director at Muse, said: “We’re delighted to be the first major developer to join the Passivhaus Trust.  As we’ve demonstrated at Greenhaus and now Willohaus, the Passivhaus standard is an effective way to support our industry reach net zero targets, as well as delivering new homes which are comfortable and energy efficient – meaning lower bills for communities that most need them.

“By leveraging our success in Salford, we can share best practice, as well as lessons learnt. As we deliver more homes to Passivhaus standards we can learn from other businesses and industries to positively shape communities across the country.”

Jon Bootland, chief executive of the Passivhaus Trust, said: “The Passivhaus Trust has been impressed with Muse’s approach to delivering cost-effective Passivhaus social housing in Salford and is delighted to have the company on board as Passivhaus Trust members. We welcome the experience of developers such as Muse in demonstrating how Passivhaus can be delivered at scale across the UK.”
