Women into Construction has announced that it has ceased trade as of 15 August due to financial difficulty
Women into Construction, a non-profit organisation promoting gender equality in the construction industry, ceased trading on 15 August 2024.
CBW Recovery has been appointed to manage the closure.
A perfect storm made Women into Construction non-viable
Several factors have been cited for the downturn in fortune for the company. One aspect was the COVID-19 pandemic, and the following cost of living crisis. With the downturn in construction and inflation ballooning, grants were not easy to come by for the charitable organisation.
The resulting construction recession, of which the industry as a whole is only just beginning to show signs to recovering from, was another factor leading to Women into Constructions downfall.
The closing statement reads: “Financially, WiC has suffered a difficult trading year due to a challenging climate for both the charitable and construction sectors. The company has worked tirelessly to find solutions to these challenges. However, despite our best efforts, we have concluded that our business model is no longer viable.”

Kath Moore MBE, former managing director of Women into Construction, wrote the closing message on the company’s website, saying: “We know that there is still much to be done to transform diversity in the Construction industry, and we are proud of all that we have achieved over the past 16 years.
“Over 4,700 women have had in depth support, 3,000 completed industry training, 1,300 completed work placements, which led to an amazing 1,300 women gaining employment.
“We’ve worked with over 350 companies and forged partnerships with training providers, government agencies, local stakeholders and industry bodies to further our cause and support the industry.
“Our work has transformed the lives of over 1,300 women who now work across the sector – and we know that alongside all their colleagues and supporters, this mighty army will continue to challenge and change the Construction companies in which they now work.
“We wish to thank all our staff, our stakeholders, corporate members, delivery partners, programme clients and of course, all the women we’ve had the joy to work with. We hope that the foundations we have built with all our stakeholders will allow you all to keep Changing the Face of Construction.”
