The NHS is seeking a new firm to supply and join a modular building framework for £2.6bn, replacing a previous programme for £1.6bn

The new NHS modular builidng framework is estimated at a value of £2.6bn, and the award will be given for a period of four years.

The framework will be split between seven lots for different sectors. It will also be divided into subcategories depending on job values, from £5m to £25m.

The potential work for firms joining the modular building framework include being the principal contractor, but also offering services such as planning application work, design, and landscaping and enabling work.

The framework will continue to deliver modular buildings for the NHS, used to create scalable, adaptable, and cost-effective buildings for use at NHS facilities.

They can deliver a long-term solution, and can be added on to existing buildings in a matter of weeks. There is less delay and more patients can be seen more quickly.

According to the NHS Shared Business Services, “The specification for the framework agreement was developed through thorough consultation with the market and experts in the field of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).

“It also supports government strategy by ensuring that social value, sustainability, MMC and key principles of The Construction Playbook are incorporated within the framework agreement.”

Requirements to join the modular building framework

The framework has some mandatory requirements to join, including:

  • A minimum of £50m annual turnover
  • ISO9001 or ISO45001 certified for quality, OR external internationally accepted equivalent
  • ISO14001 certified for environmental management, OR external internationally accepted equivalent, OR Carbon Reduction Plan
  • Business continuity plan
  • Cyber Essentials, OR ISO27001, OR Lot 7 – Build Offsite Property Assurance Scheme accreditation

The selected firm will have to consider the NHS’s Net Zero Supplier Roadmap, which requires all new contracts above £5m to publish a carbon reduction plan for Scope 1 and 2 emissions.
