Engineering consultancy Harley Haddow has boosted its commitment to sustainability by hiring a new associate director, Stephen Gallacher
With over 16 years of experience, Stephen will work on the recently created Building Performance and Sustainability division at Harley Haddow, which aims to meet the growing demand for net-zero services.
The new department is led by principal building performance engineer Lindsay Adams.
The growing importance of net-zero in both public and private sectors has encouraged Harley Haddow to bolster its efforts to reduce carbon emissions and meet sustainability goals.
As the built environment accounts for 40% of the UK’s carbon emissions, and the construction sector contributes up to 11% of global carbon emissions, net-zero construction is essential.
Gallacher has a proven track record in sustainable construction
Gallacher specialises in sustainability visioning and Passivhaus techniques. He has been involved in a diverse range of projects, such as developing low and zero-carbon strategies for the renovation of Buckingham Palace.
Gallacher worked on improving heating and cooling systems and reducing energy consumption during the concept design phase.
“I am pleased to be heading back to Harley Haddow and getting the opportunity to support and grow the Building Performance and Sustainability division further is fantastic. Knowing the people from having previously worked for the company, and the culture there, it was an easy decision for me, particularly with the great work that is being done,” said Gallacher.

According to Harley Haddow, their approach to sustainability includes the research and development of new technologies, innovative M&E systems, and the use of renewable materials. The company provides transparent reports on annual carbon reduction, which helps manage the impact of capital expenditure and operational costs.
