Galliford Try and Morgan Sindall have signed a MoD Strategic Alliance Contract with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation to deliver new projects within the £5.1bn Defence Estate Optimisation (DEO) portfolio
The DEO is a £5.1bn investment portfolio which aims to deliver better structured, modern and sustainable estate for the military.
Galliford Try’s Building business signed an MoD Strategic Alliance Contract with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation to deliver two new packages within the DEO portfolio.
Galliford Try has been appointed to two packages worth £387m
The company was successful in its bid to win the Air & UK Strategic Command regional package.
This includes refurbishment, new-build, and single-living accommodation projects at RAF bases and Strategic Command facilities across the country.
Galliford Try has also been appointed to a major project package to reconfigure the accommodation and ancillary facilities at Munster Barracks in Catterick Garrison.
The DEOP packages are a long-term target for Galliford Try
Bill Hocking, chief executive of Galliford Try, commented: “The DEOP packages have been a long-term target for our business, with defence one of the key sectors in our Sustainable Growth Strategy. We are delighted to have been selected by the DIO for these workstreams which will provide us with a fantastic pipeline for years to come.”
The MoD strategic alliance contract will enable the Ministry of Defence to harness knowledge from the construction industry
Sherin Aminossehe, director of Infrastructure for MoD, added: “The Strategic Alliance Contract for the Defence Estate Optimisation Portfolio will allow us to capitalise on the wealth of knowledge within the construction industry and harness that expertise in a way we’ve not previously done.
“The contract will ensure we can deliver the right buildings and infrastructure for Defence that will enable our military capability and create the right environment for our people to train, work and live in. We will be delivering at pace and start to see the benefits straight away within projects being mobilised this year.
“This important milestone marks the culmination of a lot of hard work and dedication by the Defence Estate Optimisation team and I offer my congratulations to them as well as to the successful contractors who we look forward to working with in delivering our shared vision.”
Morgan Sindall has signed a contract with the MoD to produce lower-carbon buildings
Morgan Sindall’s appointment to the new MoD Strategic Alliance contract represents a new way of working for the MoD with the construction industry.
It will see contractors tender for the Design & Build elements of a Delivery, Commercial & Procurement Strategy Process within a high-profile defence investment portfolio.
The contract will be recognised with a ceremonial signing by Secretary of State, at the end of May.
Delivering social value initiatives that deliver real change in communities
Pat Boyle, managing director of Morgan Sindall Construction, commented: “It is an honour to have been appointed to the MoD’s Strategic Alliance Framework. As a business we are proud of our close connections with the military community. That spans from our work constructing unique environments for service personnel to operate, train and live – such as HMS Cambria – to the many past and present employees whose pathways to civilian life we have supported after they left the military.
“We are therefore well placed to help the DEO deliver upon its laudable aims to enhance the day to day lives of those who serve in the military and their families. Our project teams across the country will work closely with our partners at the MoD to produce lower carbon buildings and to deliver social value initiatives that deliver real change in communities.
“Our Intelligent Solutions approach unites digital and platform design capabilities with modern construction methods and carbon reduction tools and will prove to be a critical asset in in delivering buildings and complexes that meet the needs of 21st century military personnel.”
