A local council has said yes to the huge Humber Tech Park, near South Killingholme, Lincolnshire, anticipated to be a leader in AI
A £3bn data centre campus, named Humber Tech Park, has been approved for construction in Lincolnshire.
The centre is set to be one of the largest data centres in Europe.
Humber Tech Park will have three main buildings
Humber Tech Park will have a span of 3,326,048 square feet, with three main buildings, office buildings, and a horticultural glass house spanning 300,000 square feet.
The campus will also include an electricity substation to generate the required 386MW of power.
While the centre itself will generate up to 400 jobs when completed, the actual construction project itself will bring about an estimated 2,500-3,500 jobs per year, including on and off site work.
The council commented on the data centre
Rob Waltham, of the council that has approved the project, said: “This is an unprecedented investment in the area, and it will be a magnet for attracting other high-tech businesses to make North Lincolnshire their home.
“The 400 jobs would be highly skilled and highly paid, averaging around £50,000 a year for operational employees.
“This will mean residents from our area who usually need to move to the city to access this type of work will now be able to access these well-paid jobs in the technology sector on their doorstep.
“More will be employed during the construction phase.”
Humber Tech Park will also work to conserve nature
Some of the other processes will involve conservation of the area, a concern due to the location of the site being on a green belt.
These processes include using shrubs and trees as part of security fences, conservation of wet areas, woods and trees, habitat creation of lakes, ponds, and marshes, and planting of new trees and hedges.
