Morgan Sindall has completed construction on a brand-new site for Kenilworth School and Sixth Form in the West Midlands

Planning permission for Kenilworth School was granted for the £44m project in 2019, and construction began in May 2021. Architectural work was carried out by Glancy Nicholls Architects.

The development is part of Warwick District Council’s plans to improve facilities and increase school places in the area. The school was officially opened on September 6.

Kenilworth School & Sixth Form relocated from its two existing sites to a new facility at Southcrest Farm, Glasshouse Lane in Kenilworth. The new site covers 36 acres and features a three-story campus.

Kenilworth School will be one of the largest in the country

The facility will create 2,200 places helping to serve the growing population of Kenilworth, which lies six miles southwest of Coventry city centre. The school is now one of the largest in the UK.

The project was procured through the Pagabo Framework and was delivered in collaboration with the Kenilworth Multi Academy Trust (KMAT).

“KMAT already had an existing reputation as one of the best schools in the area, so it was an honour to be a part of developing it even further,” said Richard Fielding, area director at Morgan Sindall Construction.

“The new school marks exciting progress in providing public services for the growing town of Kenilworth. We are delighted to have completed construction works on one of the largest schools to have been built in the UK and to deliver facilities which will benefit not only students but the wider community for years to come,” he added.

Morgan Sindall has provided state-of-the-art sports and community facilities

The new site includes two floodlit all-weather sports pitches, natural grass pitches and hard-court areas.

The site also features a large dining room, a hall and theatre, sports and changing facilities for the community, and a suite specifically designed for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) suite.

Local sports and community clubs will have access to the new sports and leisure facilities, and the hall and theatre complex will also be available for hire.

“The construction of the new school marks the start of a new and exciting phase for Kenilworth School and Sixth Form. Following the investment in new technologies and state-of-the-art facilities, there is no barrier to Kenilworth School and Sixth Form becoming a world-class provider,” said Hayden Abbott, executive head of Kenilworth School and KMAT.

“The excellent relationships with the team at Morgan Sindall, working closely with KMAT, our representatives and other partners, have ensured that the building and facilities will benefit many people in years to come,” he concluded.
